5 Ways PHV Drivers Can Reduce Fuel Costs

If you drive for a living, fuel is one of your biggest running costs — often $800–$1,500 a month. The good news: PHV and taxi drivers in Singapore qualify for some of the deepest fuel discounts available, well beyond what regular credit cards offer. Here are five ways to bring your cost per litre down.

1

Register for a PHV / taxi scheme at your main station

All the major retailers run dedicated schemes for PDVL/TDVL holders, and they are usually larger than any credit card discount:

  • Shell GO+ PHV/Taxi22% upfront with cash or NETS, 24% when paired with UOB One
  • Caltex Star Driver23% instant for registered Star Drivers via the CaltexGo app
  • SPC PDVL/TDVL discount23% instant for all PDVL/TDVL drivers at SPC stations

Registration is free and usually takes minutes. If you pump daily and haven't signed up, this is the single biggest saving you're leaving on the table.

2

Use your gig platform's fuel partners

Grab, Gojek and Lalamove negotiate their own pump rates, and they can beat even the PHV schemes at certain stations:

  • Grab drivers — up to 29% off at Caltex, SPC and Sinopec; 25% at Esso; 23% at Shell
  • Gojek partners — up to 32% off at Esso (23% instant plus monthly Esso eVouchers)
  • Lalamove drivers — up to 29% off at Sinopec; 22% at Caltex and Shell

Check your driver app's benefits page — these rates change with each promotion cycle. You can compare them side by side under the Gig Partner view in our Rankings.

3

Don't assume discounts stack — compare effective prices

A common mistake is adding percentages together. Most PHV and gig schemes replace the station's site discount and card instant discounts rather than stacking on top of them. A 23% PHV rate at one station can still lose to a 29% gig partner rate at another — and board prices differ between retailers too.

What matters is the final effective price per litre, not the headline percentage. That's exactly what our Rankings page calculates for every scenario.

4

Keep a fuel-friendly credit card for personal driving

PHV schemes only apply when you're pumping for work at your registered station. For personal top-ups — or if you split pumping across stations — a card like UOB One (7% instant at Shell), OCBC 365 (up to 25% upfront at Sinopec) or Citi Cash Back (8% fuel cashback everywhere) keeps your off-duty litres cheap.

Use our Compare tool to see which card saves more for the stations you actually use.

5

Check live prices before you pump

Board prices move every week, and a 4–6¢/L gap between retailers is common. At 1,000 litres a month, choosing the cheaper station consistently is worth $40–$60 every month — before any discount.

Bookmark the PHV / Taxi view on Rankings and glance at it before your first pump of the day.

Rates listed are sourced from publicly available retailer and platform promotions and may change without notice. Always verify the current rate in your driver app or at the station before fuelling. PumpWhere is not affiliated with any fuel retailer or platform.
